Equipment evaluation is an important step for any arc flash study that is often overlooked by specifications and sometimes therefore not included within the engineering study. However, at Titan QPS, we understand the importance of this part of any arc flash study, and therefore always include this within our studies. These studies verify that the equipment is rated to interrupt the available fault currents.
If for example, the fault current is greater than the interrupting rating of the breaker, bad things can happen, breaker literally catastrophically faults, people can get hurt, cables can get damaged, etc. If this part of your specifications for engineering studies is not contained in your specifications, we highly recommend that you add this to your specs.
